They have been referred to as "Ponies" but are actually horses.  Average size between 15 and 15.2 hands.  Most common breeds are thoroughbred and appendix and quarter-horse.

Most polo mallets are made of bamboo.  They can vary in length from 49" to 54" and are made to player's preferences.
